Workshop Title: Misophonia and Mental Health Therapy from the Mouth of a Therapist and Misophone

Workshop Description:  Awareness about misophonia is growing but it is still widely misunderstood by health professionals to the detriment of those struggling with the condition.  Even some sufferers do not know there is a name for their body's abnormal overreaction to certain sounds (and perhaps visuals), and therefore it's imperative all practitioners are able to recognize misophonia and work with the client accordingly.  This workshop will help you understand this perplexing condition and will provide concrete strategies for supporting individuals and families affected by it.

Workshop Objectives:

Attendees will:

- Be able to identify misophonia in clients (or their families)

- Learn how to create a safe space for misophonia clients

- Know the primary treatment goals and strategies for addressing misophonia in mental health therapy

- Understand the importance and role of family therapy when working with miso clients
