The Minnesota Association for Marriage & Family Therapy (MAMFT) reaffirms its commitment to upholding principles and practice of diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice in all aspects of its organization. MAMFT is dedicated to supporting the growth and practice of relational, systemic, justice-oriented healing throughout Minnesota in alignment with the high professional standards held by marriage and family therapists statewide. Our vision/mission ensures the principles of equity and socially just practice remain foundational in the practice, training, and ongoing education of relational, systemic therapy.
In January 2022, MAMFT established the Social Justice Accountability Panel (SJAP) to support the organization in enacting the practice of diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout MAMFT. The SJAP is made up of both board members and volunteers from our membership, meeting monthly to address, assess, educate, and hold the Board accountable in making equitable choices and addressing discriminatory behaviors or policies. This organizing body also brings to the forefront any misalignment from our core values, strategizes corrective actions when necessary, and supports initiatives such as the Liberation Scholarship and Pay What You Can Membership.
Both the MAMFT membership and board of directors reflect a broad range of diverse identities and backgrounds. This highly beneficial and critical makeup provides a myriad of perspectives represented in the decision-making process. We continue in our dedication of supporting therapists of all backgrounds and identities and adhere to/uphold the Minnesota Statute on ethics stating a therapist must not discriminate on the basis of race, age, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, disability, gender, health status, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or relationship status (MINN. STAT. 5300.0350 (2016)).
MAMFT is a diverse, membership-funded organization, and your participation in our organization—whether as a member, volunteer, or board member—is crucial to the work and longevity of MAMFT. Together, we will continue to advance these critical efforts in a manner that is aligned with our mission and core values.
