Emily Coler Hanson, MS, LMFT (she/her)
Q: What are important aspects of your identity that you'd like to share with us?
A: I’ve lived and worked in both rural and metro Minnesota, with a strong personal connection to the LGBTQ+ community. I’m especially passionate about advocating for the rights and care of trans youth.
Q: Tell us a little bit about who you are professionally.
A: I’m an MFT with 15+ years’ experience in rural and metro Minnesota and North Dakota. I’ve led clinical teams, developed Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) services, and created CEU trainings. As an AAMFT supervisor and former ND LMFT Board Chair, I’m committed to advocacy, including supporting gender-affirming care and advancing MFTs’ careers.
Q: How do you spend your time outside of work?
A: I enjoy outdoor family time hiking, camping, fishing, and skiing. I embrace all seasons with cozy traditions, baking, crafts, and reading. I value balance, connection, and simple joys in life.
Q: Describe your engagement with MAMFT.
A: I’ve presented multiple times for MAMFT and worked with AAMFT as an item writer, exam expert, and state delegate. I’m eager to build on these experiences to serve and strengthen the MFT profession.
Q: What’s your “why” for serving on the board?
A: I seek to serve on the MAMFT board to strengthen advocacy for MFTs in Minnesota, focusing on pay parity, licensure portability, and career sustainability. I’m passionate about supporting pre-licensed providers and expanding opportunities in both rural and metro areas.
