Can you tell me more information about the licensing process and how I apply for my license?
Thank you for your inquiry. We have provided a summary of this process on our website here (https://www.mamft.net/students-pre-clinical/licensure-information/) but please be aware that the MN Board of Marriage and Family Therapy is the authority on this matter. You can contact them at firstname.lastname@example.org. The following website gives more information regarding your question as well: https://mn.gov/boards/marriage-and-family/license-applicant-info/new-applicants/
Please note, the MN Board of Marriage and Family Therapy is in charge of applications and licenses. We are the Minnesota Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. Our association is a non-profit organization separate from the regulatory board. The Association works to protect and promote our profession by providing continuing education and such. The Board is in charge of granting licenses and regulating licensees; their main goal is to protect the public.
I am in the process of becoming an AAMFT approved supervisor and would like to apply to be a Minnesota Board Approved Supervisor as well. How do I do this?

I am a licensed MFT in another state. I am wondering about the process of getting licensed in Minnesota. Is there anyone available I could more specifically contact to gain more information on this?
MAMFT is a professional association so we are not in charge of granting licenses. This is a question better suited for the MN Board of Marriage and Family Therapy (https://mn.gov/boards/marriage-and-family/). You can email them at email@example.com or call at 612-617-2220.
I am now fully licensed, and would like to update my membership from pre-clinical to licensed. Will you let me know the correct way to go about doing that?
First off, congrats on becoming fully licensed! Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to inform MAMFT of this update, and we will update your membership form.
I am currently working on my Masters in Child and Family Social Work. I am wondering, even though I am not enrolled into a college that has an MFT program, is there any advice or courses you could recommend for me to take to be able to receive my license in MFT?
You might want to reach out to the MN Regulatory Board of MFT in order to see if they have any advice (email@example.com). The requirements are also listed in the following MN laws and statutes: https://www.revisor.mn.gov/rules/5300.0130/
Below are links to specific information according to MN law/statute:

I have a legal question about who has access to records of family therapy when a minor is involved and the parents are divorced. One parent wants family therapy with his new wife and son and the mother of the child wants access to the records. Is there someone at MAMFT that can consult with me or should I be calling the MN Board of MFT?
We would recommend visiting the regulatory board website, which has links to rules and statutes to follow in regards to a minor’s records. This can be found here: https://mn.gov/boards/assets/State%20Examination%20reference%20sheet%20-Current_tcm21-338193.pdf
If you have more questions, we would recommend contacting the MN MFT regulatory board. You can email them at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are a member of AAMFT, your membership allows you access to free legal consultation. More information can be found here.
I am wondering if you know of an AAMFT refresher course for current supervisors?
AAMFT Supervisor Refresher courses are now only available through AAMFT, so you’ll want to check out their website (www.aamft.org) to see what’s available.
I’m wondering if anyone knows of CEUs for approved supervisors and if they can be online?
Information from the MN MFT Regulatory Board states, “The Board’s website CE list has several courses (highlighted in yellow) that are approved for supervision CE.” Here is a link to the courses: https://mn.gov/boards/assets/BMFT%20CE%20List%20for%20Website%207%2012%2019%20_tcm21-392880.pdf
Here is a link to general information about continuing education: https://mn.gov/boards/marriage-and-family/license-applicant-info/continuing-education/.
Please note, the MN MFT Regulatory Board is a separate entity from the MN Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (MAMFT). The MN Board of Marriage and Family Therapy is in charge of approving continuing education. MAMFT provides different opportunities for getting your CEs, but does not approve CEs. You must report CEs to and get approval from the MN Board of Marriage and Family Therapy.
