Workshop Description: Participants will be guided through an original model, developed by the lead presenter over years of research and clinical experience, that aids clinicians in the conceptualization, assessment, and treatment of sexual problems for individuals and couples. Drawing from major concepts from human development, sexual development, and attachment theory, participants will be able to understand the origins of many sexual problems. With this, participants will be able to identify the etiology of sexual problems in relation to other developmental models that influence mainstream psychotherapy. Second, participants will be provided extensive and comprehensive sexual assessments including a thorough Sex History, as well as original assessments, that will aid clinicians in being able to identify treatment strategies and build treatment plans. These assessments complement a variety of treatment modalities including EMDR, EFT, CBT, DBT, and other systemic therapies. Third, participants will be provided with a variety of interventions that treat specific problems including arousal, seduction, and sexual problems. Some of these are original, some are adaptations of common sex therapy interventions. These interventions are also adaptable to fit various populations and treatment settings. Handouts of over 30 interventions will be provided to help therapists create a library of their own. Finally, clinicians will be provided specific guidance on how to treat common sexual problems including ED, PE, Vaginismus, and sex after infidelity.
Workshop Objectives: Participants will learn how to conceptualize sexual issues from a bio-psycho-relational lens using the Couples Erotic Flow model. Participants will become familiar with various assessments to identify sexual problems, goals, and strengths. Participants will be able to identify origins of sexual problems, both in the individual as well as the relationship. Participants will be provided with a comprehensive set of interventions that assist clients in transforming their sex life into one more fulfilling and satisfying. Participants will be able to apply the Couples Erotic Flow model to actual cases they currently see in their practices.
