We’ve all heard the saying “you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of others.” How many of us, as therapists, offer this advice or check in with clients on how they are doing with self-care? All of us. Exactly. Yet we are the worst people, at times, to follow our own advice. We want to care for others and desire to help others; we’re in a helping profession. However, the saying is true in that we really do have to take care of ourselves first before we can truly take care of our clients, family and friends. In this workshop you will learn about burnout, secondary traumatic stress and how it affects YOU. You will also learn strategies to prevent these symptoms or lessen them in your life. We will also discuss how your environment at work can help or hinder your self-care plan and what you can do about it. Great workshop for clinicians, supervisors and administrators of clinical staff.
I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist who has been working in my field for 10 years in both Western Michigan and the Twin Cities of Minnesota. Throughout these past 10 years I have had the opportunity to work in a non-profit agency, private practice as well as become faculty at the University of Phoenix. I have worked within the school, outpatient, and home-based settings. I’ve had the opportunity to supervise interns as well as new and seasoned clinicians in the field. I have experience with the administrative side of our field as well and navigating insurances, non-profit agency topics and budgets as well as presenting and marketing services provided within the community.
I have a strong passion for working with couples, children and families. I enjoy providing supervision to other clinicians in the field and providing trainings in my community related to mental health.
I am a MN Board Approved Supervisor for MFT’s as well as a MN BBHT Board Approved Supervisor for LPC and LPCC’s.
I hold my LMFT in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
