Presented By: Erin Rowlson, LMFT

Workshop Description:

We’ve all heard the saying “you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of others.” How many of us, as therapists, offer this advice or check in with clients on how they are doing with self-care? All of us. Exactly. Yet we are the worst people, at times, to follow our own advice. We want to care for others and desire to help others; we’re in a helping profession. However, the saying is true in that we really do have to take care of ourselves first before we can truly take care of our clients, family and friends. In this workshop you will learn about burnout, secondary traumatic stress and how it affects YOUYou will also learn strategies to prevent these symptoms or lessen them in your life. We will also discuss how your environment at work can help or hinder your self-care plan and what you can do about it. Great workshop for clinicians, supervisors and administrators of clinical staff.

Workshop Objectives:

  • Learn the differences between burnout, compassion fatigue and secondary traumatic stress
  • Learn ways each of these affects your daily functioning both at work and in your personal life
  • Strategies to prevent, or lessen, burnout, compassion fatigue and secondary traumatic stress
  • Real practice of these strategies so you can implement TODAY and everyday forward
  • Identify ways your work environment helps or hinders your self-care plan
  • Strategies to improve your working environment
  • Walk away with tools for your working environment to assess and improve the work place
  • Walk away with a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly self-care plan
