Workshop Description: The Cone of Freedom Parenting Model is a developmental paradigm that gives family therapists both a coherent structure for family therapy and a set of skills to transfer to their clients. It balances structure with autonomy needs as these change over the course of time. It is based on the precepts of children learning on their own through structured freedom, natural and logical consequences, understanding the relevance of communal versus private needs, the intelligent use of power, and the means by which structure is established and maintained.

Workshop Objectives: -Understand the philosophical ideas that provide coherence to the Cone of Freedom model (flow of duty, nature of power, end game of parenting). -Understand the theories of learning that support the Cone of Freedom model. -Understand the ways and means by which structure is established and maintained. -Understand how nurturing can be used “intelligently” within a family system. -Learn how to use the therapeutic process to get the best results (who we meet with, when we meet with them, and what we talk about).
